Gut Hook Style Knives

A gut hook knife can actually be any one of various style blades with one thing in common - the gut hook on the spine toward the point. The gut hook is most often used to skin game. The tip of the hook would be inserted into a small slit in the skin and pull the blade toward you - which will cut the skin open similar to opening something up by pulling a zipper tab.
